New
Energy Ltd was set up in the island of Malta in 1998, initially,
a by-product of more than 8 years experience in the production
of OEM battery packs for Telital.
The original scope of the company was to manufacture non-original
mobile phone batteries for the aftermarket sector's demands
of replacement batteries. Being a very quality conscious company
right from the start of its operation, the quality and consistency
demands was high. At the same time, the manufacturing costs
were constantly under review in order to maintain a competitive
edge with rival European and Asiatic competitors.

A good market in Italy and France was secured. As sales orders
continued to increase, the Malta operation grew steadily both
in production volumes and employee head count. In the first
2 years of existence, the company exceeded all its expectations,
and is now baldly looking forward to venture into new enterprises.
With good engineering resources and a stable, versatile workforce,
the company set out to broaden its scope and product ranges
during last year. The process of ISO certification was started.
Investments, both in personnel and equipment were carefully
made. These efforts are already showing results.
The first OEM project was launched in mid 2000. A battery
pack for a power assisted bicycle supplied by Merida, one
of the world's market leaders. This NiMH battery pack is now
in production at New Energy Ltd. During this year, more OEM
projects, both for local and foreign customers were initialised
and confirmed.
Another significant milestone is the partnership agreement
signed with a reputable American manufacturer of high quality,
litium polymer cells. By means of this partnership agreement,
New Energy Ltd. will be able to assemble battery packs for
any application specifically requesting the American producer's
product.
